Lobbie Loubser's son visits The Mitre

Johan Loubser (1961O) captured this historic picture. His father taught at the Prep for 41 years.

From L to R in the Photo - Andrew Newton-Thompson (1961O); (with cadet head-gear - ?); Mike Sillars (1961O); Laurie Chiappini (1961O); Charles Bothner (1961S); Mike Maine (1961O); David Hopkins (1959O); John Satchel (1961G) and (almost invisible in the photo) Rusty Crowhurst (1961G).

The photo above was taken in 1959 by Johan with his Box Kodak Brownie!

Johan, who recently got to know Dr Paul Murray after a chance encounter at a coffee shop, came to the Mitre to say hello and enquire about his good friend, Laurie Chiappini, who he wanted to make contact with.

Johan recounts the experience when he went across as part of the cadet detachment to visit the guns on Robben Island.  These are still there today.

The OC at the time who accompanied them was Mr Hunneyball, vice-principal of Bishops in charge of the cadet corps.

We thoroughly enjoyed Johan's visit to the Mitre and are extremely grateful to him for enriching our archives with a selection of prize photographic material.

Should any of his classmates want to get in touch, Johan is happy to be contacted at loubserj9@gmail.com.
