The Mitre - Home of the OD Union |
ODs, their spouses and friends met at The Mitre yesterday morning, 14 March 2024, to listen to OD Simon Winter (1970G) speak about his book "Charles Leonard: South Africa's First Revolutionary Leader". The talk was followed by a Q&A. Simon explained the writing of his book, and how
"in 1895 a group of unlikely revolutionaries plotted to overthrow the Boer government of President Paul Kruger in the South African Republic in an armed insurrection. Had they succeeded, their leader, Charles Leonard, would in all probability have become the new President and would have been ideally placed to defuse the tensions which culminated in the Second South African War (otherwise known as the Anglo-Boer War)".
The Mitre Lounge is an ideal place to host such events.
The event was accompanied by a Tea hosted by the ODU.
For further information of such events please contact the OD Ambassador who hosts these events, including a series of society meetings, music concerts & colloquia Paul Murray [email protected]
