On Sunday 28 March, the OD Golf Club hosted the first event of the year, the OD Golf Championship at Royal Cape Golf Club.
The day was organized by OD Golf Club manager Simon Koch (1977S) and ODU digital community coordinator, Jeremy Ryall (2014F).
25 ODs attended the event, with a few teachers showing off their golfing prowess. College Principal, Tony Reeler was in attendance, as well as Sean Henchie and Phil Court.
The day saw two divisions, which were separated by the skill set of the players involved. A division included all golfers with a handicap index from 9 and below, while B division included those with handicaps above 10.
Division B was played under a Stableford format, while division A was played under a medal format. If you were a betting person it would have made the most sense to have your money on Cole Cruickshank (2015G), who plays off a +3. Cole finished the day 2 under, taking home division A, in so doing winning the OD golf blazer.
Richard Thompson (2004M) took home second place in the A division, winning 6 OD whiskey glasses.
Lourens Van Zyl (2000K) came out top in the B division, winning A Brush With Bishops, an artistic take on the College by Richie Ryall (1976F) and Dr Paul Murray.
We hope to host as many golf champs throughout the year, creating enthusiasm in so doing maintaining friendships while also making new ones.
Although this event took place in Cape Town, golfing ODs from around the world are encouraged to host their own OD golf club golf days.
