Steven Riches (2003K) looks back to when former 1st XI player Nikolai Smith (2011W) represented Italy in International cricket in November / December 2019.

Following school, he played some Club cricket for Claremont Cricket Club before moving over to the UK and playing in the Irish Premier League where he represented the Northern Knights.

In 2019 he was selected to represent Italy via his mother who is of Italian decent. In November 2019, he was named in Italy's squad for the Cricket World Cup Challenge League B tournament in Oman.

In Italy's opening match of the tournament, against Kenya he scored his first International hundred.
