Jordan De Sousa (2024G), capped off his schoolboy water polo career in spectacular fashion last year, making history as the first-ever water polo player to be named to the prestigious SuperSport Schools Class of 2024. Selected as one of the top 30 school sportsmen in the country - across all sporting codes - he also became the only Bishops student to make the final class, a remarkable achievement.

Jordan’s selection was the perfect culmination of a nine-year journey in the pool at Bishops. In his final season, he was instrumental in leading the Bishops 1st Water Polo Team to their first-ever SACS Water Polo Tournament victory, where he was named Best Goalkeeper of the competition. His leadership as Vice Captain of the team further cemented his legacy as one of the greats to come through the Bishops system.

His performances didn’t go unnoticed beyond school level. In April 2024, Jordan was selected for the South African U18 team for the World Water Polo Championships in Buenos Aires, Argentina. However, a life-changing opportunity arose, and he made the difficult decision to withdraw in order to attend trials at Stanford University in the United States. The gamble paid off - Jordan secured his place at one of the world’s leading academic and sporting institutions, where he now continues both his studies and his water polo career.

Reflecting on his time at Bishops, Jordan credited his coaches, teammates, and the school’s strong sporting culture for his development. His journey from Bishops to Stanford is an inspiration to other young water polo players following in his footsteps.

As he embarks on this exciting new chapter in 2025, we wish Jordan all the best for his time at Stanford. We will be following his progress with interest.

Best of luck, Jordan - your journey is just beginning!
