Dr. Paul Murray recently crossed paths with Olympian swimmer Michael Houlie (2018B) during a training session at the Sports Science Centre. Houlie, sporting his OD swimming gear, had also visited Bishops yesterday to mark a special occasion - his nephew’s first day at the College in Grade 8.

Houlie’s performance at the World Aquatics Short Course Championships has been exceptional. Qualifying for the Men's 50m Breaststroke Final highlights his dedication and competitive edge in the sport. In addition, his contribution to the Mixed Medley team, which broke the African Record in the 4x50m event, underscores his versatility and strength in a team setting.

Beyond these recent achievements, Houlie has a commendable track record. Born on June 27, 2000, he has represented South Africa in various international competitions. Notably, he competed in the men's 100 metre breaststroke at the 2019 World Aquatics Championships.

In the same year, he secured a gold medal in the Men's 50 metre breaststroke at the African Games held in Rabat, Morocco.

Houlie also showcased his talent at the 2018 Summer Youth Olympics, clinching gold in the boys' 50 metre breaststroke event.

His Olympic journey continued as he competed in the men's 100 metre breaststroke event at the 2020 Summer Olympics.

The Bishops community recognises these achievements as a reflection of hard work and consistency. Michael’s ongoing success serves as a strong example for young athletes pursuing excellence in their fields.

Congratulations to Michael on his latest milestones!
