On Thursday, 21 March 2024, the Old Michaelhousians and the Old Diocesans ran onto a scorching Piley, to a full capacity crowd.
This was the curtain raiser to the main match of the day, Bishops versus Michaelhouse.
The final score was 0-20 to the OMs.
This OM/OD match is the first of two OD matches in the historic celebratory Bishops 175 Rugby and Hockey Tournament played at Bishops from Wednesday 20 March to Sunday 24 March.
Thousands of visitors are attending over the course of the long weekend, either to play or to watch, which scores of coffee outlets, eateries and places selling comestibles.

Teams are participating from all over South Africa; apart from many local school teams, they are Kingswood, Hilton, Grey, Michaelhouse, St Andrew's (Makhanda), St Charles, St Benedict’s, Uplands, St David's (Marist) and Ubombo Rugby Club.
The OD committee had the hounour of hosting our OM visitors and ODs to drinks at the after-event in the Heatlie. Seeing the younger ODs and OMs connect was wonderful, and out of the fixture has come extended networking with OMs, ODs and OAs scheduled to hold a number of related functions in Dubai (a big contingent of Alumni there) and KZN, respectively.
This Saturday the ODs and OAs meet at 3.30PM ahead of the St Andrew's versus Bishops main match of the day.
Further OD rugby and hockey matches with our local alumni associations, SACS and Rondebosch, will place in Term 3, as they did last year, now an annual fixture in our calendar.
We will share more news after the Saturday OD/OA match.
