On Wednesday 22 January 2025, the Rondebosch 1st XI played the Bishops 1st XI in a 20-over day/night cricket match at Frank Reid Field at Bishops. The match is part of the Rondebosch Cricket and Bishops Diocesan College annual cricket fixtures, and a chance for the teams to participate in their conventional rivalry and cameraderie.
It also provides a wonderful occasion for their fans to turn out in support of their teams.
Students of both schools, staff, parents and supporters attended this spectacular event under floodlights on the Frank Reid Field, on a typical Cape summer's evening.
Attending was the ODA Dr Paul Murray who spent time chatting with his counterpart from Rondebosch, Andre Ross.
At the end of the match, Paul managed to capture the photograph of four Heads of School attending.
From LtR in the photograph are: Suhayl Khalfey (2022K); Craig Vintcent (1987S), Luke Carter (Founders Matric) & Wynand ("WP") van Zyl (1997K).
It was Craig Vintcent who shared the following: "If you were a student at Bishops for the first time, and were part of this amazing event, would it not have been a spectacular experience for you?"
"Sitting and watching the cricket, at the foot of Devil's Peak on this breatless summer's evening - meeting people and engaging - must have been just as spectacular for the scores of spectators present". (Paul Murray).
