The Parent Committee tasked with the Matric Dance to take place on Thursday 28 September 2023 in the Mallett Centre at Bishops, asked Paul Murray the ODA and school archivist to come up with a theme for the dance. It was decided to use the Entrance which is 100 years old as a theme/motif, for the Gr 12s to appreciate their time at school; the Ogilvie gateway, the gates and the Entrance which is the place they enter their school; and the place one day from where they will finally leave. In the photograph above, is the assembly of the Class of 2023 with Paul addressing the students, at the Dacre Lovett Haddon Memorial gates named after an OD that was killed in action fighting for freedom against the evils of the Nazis, in Italy - on 6 July 1944. Dacre was the Head of School and Rhodes Scholar.
However, the Matric Class of 2023 will never really leave. Their Valedictory service will soon come and then they will be ODs. This ceremony will take place on Friday 20 October on the lawns outside the The Raymond Ackerman Centre (where the Avenue Field is). Here the OD Chair will address them and welcome them into the fold. (We will publish something about this then).
Paul is excited that he has been invited to attend the dance, where he believes he will show his support for the newest intake of ODs, thus connecting ODs, with ODs, and engaging.
