Reunions |
Nick Winearls and Jeremy Wiley organised a mini reunion of the class of '70 for their 55 anniversary which was held at The Mitre on Monday 03 March 2025. A highlight of the evening was the attendance virtually on Teams by several classmates, each having a chance to speak from wherever they are based. They were Malcolm McKenzie (OH) from Ghana, Andrew de Klerk (WH) from Disneyworld (aka the USA), Graeme Swanson (GH) from Brisbane, Derek Wilson (GH) and Dee McLachlan (FH) from Melbourne, Lodewyk Bedford (FH) from Port Elizabeth and Mark Jackson (WH) from Johannesburg.
In attendance, in the flesh, were:
LtR back row - Peter Karstel (FH) and Rosemary Karstel; Gerda Wiley, Ken Hands (WH); Mike Olds (OH), Roger Graham (WH), Adi Silberbauer (GH), Ingrid Silberbauer, Veronica Mitchell, Simon Winter (GH), Rosemarie Thomas, Charles Thomas (WH), Richard Morris (FH), Dave Mitchell (GH), Frank Baker (SH), Brian de Kock (1953O), Mark Chilton (WH), Barrie Meadows (OH), Nick Winearls, Giles White (WH), Trisha Baker, Leiff Eriksen (FH), Guy Harris (FH), Mark Webber (SH), Lindsay Madden (GH).
In front, Vivienne Mallett, Carolyn Hamilton-Smith, Di Olds, Tessa Fenton-Wells, Angie Eriksen, Glynis Madden, Rosemarie Saunders, Jannie Brink (SH), Monika Brink; Marilyn Graham.
Not in the photograph but present Jeremy Wiley (FH).
It was special for the 1970 year to have the wife of the former Principal, Mrs Vivienne Mallett in attendance (seated in front) with Carolyn Hamilton-Smith a former secretary to the ODU, attending as well. Also, in the photograph is Brian de Kock, OD and former Housemaster of Founders. Brian came to Bishops as a schoolboy in 1943 and matriculated from OH in 1953, and regularly attends OD functions!
College Archivist Paul Murray was thanked for having given a State of the Nation address, confirming that the School is in excellent shape, as we could see from the windows of the Mitre across the fields. Altogether, a most enjoyable occasion.
