Class of 2008 - 10 year reunion – August 2018
Over the course of the Bishops-Rondebosch weekend, we, the Class of 2008, hosted our 10 year reunion. And what a weekend it was! There was a fantastic turnout from all over the world and, as astutely noted by
Ryan du Toit (2008F), even a few from as far afield as Greenpoint.
On Thursday evening, warm-up drinks were held at Forresters Arms, and
Kyle dos Santos (2008F) organized a splendid round of golf on Friday morning at Steenberg that was won by
Gerard Pacak (2008M) and
Luke Neill (2008M). On Friday night, after a braai and an attempt at some touch rugby on the Range, we keenly watched the victorious hockey team. Saturday morning was devoted to cheering the First XV on from the side of the Piley Rees.
On Saturday night at the Mitre, over the course of a few delicious beers organized by
Murray Middleton (2008B), we shared many fond memories of our time at the College - from steam car mischiefs in science class, to early exits at leadership camps.
Justin Woods (2008B), our Reconciladictory speaker, delivered a superb speech which, true to form, had us laughing ourselves into stitches.
To draw the weekend gradually to a close, Sunday bowls was arranged at Kelvin Grove. However, the weather gods (thankfully!) had other ideas. Instead, the valiant ‘08 bowlers had drinks and boerie rolls in the Cream Lounge.
Overall, the weekend was an enormous amount of fun; with many forgotten stories revived and old friendships rekindled. Thank you to everyone that attended, and particularly to
Nick Lassen (2008B) for coordinating a superb weekend.
Finally, the Class of 2008 has, as a year group, donated kindly to the Hamilton Mvelase Bursary Fund. This generous spirit is a true testament to the character of the Class of 2008. Thank you to everyone that has given so willingly and pledged to provide one term’s tuition and boarding to a deserving beneficiary.
