Nigel Murphy (1954O) | 1937 - 2019

We regret to inform you of the passing of Nigel Murphy (1954O).

"Nigel Murphy, a founding member of the Cape Town Press Club and who served as its chairman in the early 1990s, died at his Kenilworth, Cape Town, home this morning, 4 June 2019. He was 82." To read more, click HERE

Peter Steyn (1955O) reports: "Nigel Murphy and I were at school together at WPPS and subsequently at Bishops. I was saddened to hear on FMR this morning that he died yesterday (4th June) and he will be missed at our class reunions, the last one in March this year. Nigel was a consummate professional broadcaster and many will recall his discussion programme ‘The Editors’, but sadly programmes of this quality no longer feature on SABC. After time in London learning the skills of broadcasting, Nigel was on air for many years in Rhodesia where we enjoyed the mellifluous sound of his well-modulated speaking voice. Nigel was delightful company at a party, never conventional, and with a quirky and infectious sense of humour."
