Terence Parker (1981K) passing

A man of deep faith with a passion for people and meaningful relationships. Avid reader, sportsman, mentor and teacher, dedicated to his family and committed to making the oil/mining industry safer.

Past Chairman of the ODU, Wilbur van Niekerk (1985K) contacted us to let us know of the sad passing of Terence Parker (1981K) on 18 July 2024.

Terence attended Bishops for a post-matric year in 1981, having been awarded the prestigious Shell Scholarship. During his time at the school, he was appointed a house prefect in Kidd House and made a significant mark as an accomplished sprinter, reaching the finals in both the 100m and 200m events at the annual athletics meet.

After his time at Bishops, Terence embarked on a successful career, culminating in his role as a specialist trainer in risk at the Anglo Group. He retired from this position in 2023.

Terence left an indelible mark on the lives of those who knew him. He was known for his infectious laughter, positive attitude, and unwavering commitment to his work and family.

Professionally, Terence was a highly respected specialist in risk management. His career spanned several decades, with significant contributions to companies like Chevron and Anglo American. He was particularly passionate about health, safety, and environmental management, earning a reputation as an exemplary leader and colleague. His dedication to these fields was further evidenced by his role as an honorary lecturer at the Wits Mining Institute, where he influenced many with his expertise and commitment.

Terence's personal life was filled with love and devotion to his family. He is survived by his wife, Malia, and their children, as well as his father, Dick, and his brother, Grant (1984K).

Terence was known for his willingness to go out of his way to help others, his intellectual curiosity, and his joy in sharing moments with friends and family, whether on the golf course or at social gatherings.

He will be fondly remembered for his kindness, wisdom, and the profound impact he had on the lives of those around him.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family and friends.
