Sad passing of one of our favourite Bishops moms, Margaret Dobson

Margaret was Mother to hundreds of boys at Bishops, from the time she worked in the Sanatorium and as the House Mother of "Top House".

It is with deep sadness that we inform ODs of the passing of Margaret Dobson.

Margaret was the surviving spouse of Bishops icon teacher, Paul Dobson, who passed away on 20 July 2020.

They leave behind their three children – John (1986K), Anne and Clare – and five grandchildren, Tom, James, David, Sarah and Annabel.

Margaret worked as a nurse at the Sanatorium from 1970 to 1990.  She was also the House Mother to hundreds of 'Top House' boarders from School House, where her beloved husband Paul (Staff 1966-95) was the Housemaster (1970 - 1982).

Margaret was instrumental in forming the very popular staff wives' organisation with Vivienne Mallett, Carolyn Hamilton-Smith and Gill de Kock.

Margaret made a significant contribution to the plight of the elderly in the poorer areas of the Western Cape as the founder of NOAH (Neighbourhood Old Age Homes).

Vivienne Mallet writes:

"Margie had such an outgoing nature, that it was easy to feel that you were part of her family, and for the 55 Years we shared our lives at Bishops, and in retirement, she was a strong and supportive partner in the ups and downs of life at school.   She took on the dull, tedious jobs that came our way with as much enthusiasm as she took on the new and exciting ones and, with her dry and infectious sense of humour lighting the way,  these got accomplished with ease and even, enjoyment.  We will miss her presence hugely and continue to benefit from the warm and loving standards she set for all of us. RIP dear Margie."

Our heartfelt condolences go to John (1986K) and all the family.
