Passing of friends

Robin James Impey (1974/5G) passed away unexpectedly on 31 October 2022 at the age of 66.  Robin's wife Di, telephoned to let us know that he had passed away very suddenly in Johannesburg after suffering a heart attack.   Robin had been living in Johannesburg since 1986 where he had worked and raised his family.  Robin and Di had two children, Timothy and Caitlin who both went to school in Johannesburg.  He was retired at the time of his death but was still doing IT Consultancy.

After school Robin completed a Bachelor of Commerce (B.Com.) in  accounting and economics at UCT.  He played rugby and cricket for UCT.  This was in 1977.  Some time later (1995/6) he went on to complete his Master of Commerce (M.Com) in Information Technology at WITS.  He was a life-longer learner and as recently as 2004 qualified as a PMP (Project Management Professional) through the Project Management Institute of the USA.

He had an extensive career in IT.  His last job was consulting and working as an IT Specialist for Standard Bank.

Di said that Robin was an outdoors person and he had been in excellent health before his heart attack.  His death, therefore, came as a shock to all those who knew him.

One of his team mates from school, Nicky Bicket remembers the family as follows:

Robin was the nicest guy. We played in the same cricket team together. He was a formidable outswing bowler!

He has an older brother, David (1971/2G) and I remember his father, Lawerence Impey was a professor of geography at UCT and taught loads of ODs over the years.

Our deepest sympathy to the friends and family of Robin whose unexpected departure has left  a massive void.  He will be missed.
