Wade Naude (1969S)/1952 – 2021, passed away on 17 August 2021, aged 69, from Pancreatic Cancer, having been diagnosed in December 2020. Wade was at WP Prep School, and came to the College as a boarder in School House in 1966, which is where I got to know him well.

Wade grew up on the family’s table grape-growing farm in the Hex River Valley, which he took over managing after school. He married Yvonne in the Bishops Chapel in 1975, and they produced 2 sons and 2 daughters. Sadly, Yvette died from Leukaemia in 1988.

For many years, the family had a holiday house above Voelklip Beach in Hermanus, and after selling the farm, they moved permanently to retire in Hermanus 10 years ago.

To Yvonne, and the two sons, daughter and 3 grandchildren, we send our sincere condolences. Wade was still an active guy with a zest for life and travel – enjoying his motorbike, scuba-diving and other activities.

At our 30 year ‘69’ers Matric reunion in 1999 (which coincided with the school’s 150 celebrations), Wade gave each of us “Top House” boys a CD he had “cut” titled “Remember the Rec Room?”. On it were all of our favourite hits which we played on the old School House record-player. A fun memento of our time together, which I will keep as a reminder of an old friend, taken too early in life.
