ODU Office News |
We have recently translated our constitution into Afrikaans and are in the process of extending this to isiXhosa. We are very proud of the essence of the constitution that informs the culture we want to grow and establish in the ODU.
This paraphrased extract taken from the extensive document (collated by Brendan Jenman in August of 2021 for the union) that our constitution is based on, is a reminder of the guiding principles and values we agreed would inform our choices, decisions and actions:
The ODU strives to achieve ‘Inclusion’ and ‘A Sense of Belonging’ of ODs; each OD should feel a valued member of the ODU and that they belong to an organisation where everyone has an equal and welcome voice. A sense of inclusion should be sought at every opportunity to foster a culture of unity and to increase engagement.
The ODU actively seeks an ODU Culture that is respectful of others, their contributions and opinions. ODU Officers take the lead in their actions and behaviours to establish humility, respect, courage, responsibility, and good citizenship as the core values to the ODU Culture.
The ODU should adhere to Good Governance and Due Process to ensure consistency in approach, productive, efficient and effective outcomes and to minimise disruption.
In March 2023 new members will be selected to join the OD Committee. Should you relate to these core values, and feel that you could contribute in a leadership role, please get in touch and we will connect you with current committee members to find out more about the different aspects of being part of the ODC.
There is a formal nomination and selection process that we will share with everyone closer to the time, but we would encourage members to already start considering putting themselves forward to serve.
