On Wednesday 24 April 2024, The Symposium met for its quarterly get-together at The Pizza Connection. Also present, and great to see were former parents and other ODs enjoying a meal.
In the photograph are: Dr WP van Zyl (1997K), Adv. Gustav Loubser (2009B); Paul Murray the ODA (Staff - 1991 - ); Andrew Russell (1981G; PM - 1982); Viljoen Van Heerden (2011M); Dr John Woodland (2005K); The Reverend Richard LLoyd Morgan (Guest) and Khelan Dheda (2021B).
Our visitor guest was The Reverend Richard LLoyd Morgan formerly Dean of Kings College Cambridge, who has been working at the Cathedral since the beginning of the year, and is due to return to the UK at the end of the month.
Khelan Dheda gave the presentation which was about the way AI works; a fascinating story from an academically astute OD in his third year of Medical Studies. We got to test some examples: how Virgil's Aeneid can churn out an epic saga on South African history!
We met up with Steve and Michelle Froelicher - their sons Miles and Max having been in Founders House (2014; 2018); and Melissa and Mark van Hoogstraten (1897F), and their son Alexander also in Founders (2019).
The Symposium is a society started by Brian Robertson (1979W) and Paul Murray. The idea is for ODs to meet around some good fare and conversation.
Anyone interested to attend future get-togethers please contact the Secretary Viljoen van Heerden at [email protected]
