On Wednesday 19 July a number of ODs met for a meeting of The Symposium, a society founded several years ago by Brian Roberson and Paul Murray, for ODs to connect and engage. The following ODs met, L- R in the photograph above: Alec Rippon (Ogilvie House, 2021); ODA Paul Murray (Bishops Staff 1991 - ); the current Chair Viljoen van Heerden (Mallett House, 2011); Chris Welby-Solomon (2020); Khelan Dheda (Birt House, 2021); Daniel Hewson (Gray House, 2005); Mrs Jacky Withers (Bishops Staff 1998 - ); Gustav Loubser (Birt House, 2009); John Woodland (Kidd House, 2005) and in front, WP van Zyl (Kidd House, 1997). Discussion rotated led by Viljoen van Heerden the previous time which was on 15 April, to John Woodland leading it for the current meeting where Clem Sunter's scenarios were discussed: "South African scenarios, flags and probabilities". The next person to lead the discussion will be Gustav Loubser. The date for the following meeting normally gets set in good time, so we look forward to the next meeting in late October/early November. The event normally takes place every quarter, and is meant to be very relaxed, for some ODs to connect and engage - anyone wishing for more information, is welcome to contact Paul at [email protected] It will be great to see more ODs join. The great beauty of these gatherings has been the wide range of age-groups getting together, ODs remembering their school experiences, discussing what their lives are about, and looking forward to more of these kinds of meetings.
