Conrad Guelke (1954G) reports: The Western Canada OD Braai and Potluck 2019 was held at the Vancouver home of OD Friend, Lesley Godwin, on Saturday June 15th. The weather was superb, the conversation was engaging, and the food was described as “splendiferous”, and included bobotie, boerewors and lamb chops. South African wines were the predominant beverage of choice.

The average age of the gathering was reduced by the attendance of Paul Leach (School House, 2012)  a recent arrival in Western Canada. Paul is currently working all over Canada (Yukon, Quebec, Northwest Territories, Ontario and British Columbia) as an exploration geologist. Bears are a routine occupational hazard in this profession. Indeed, Paul has already had a seriously scary encounter with a black bear in the Northwest Territories.

Last Saturday’s event was attended by seven ODs, their spouses and friends, as well as the wives of the late ODs David Petersen (wife Wendy) and Philip Marx (wife Carole).
