Lunch and Laughs in Brisbane

Queensland Branch share a great afternoon.

The Queensland Branch organised a long, liquid lunch at a well-known beer garden in Brisbane last week.  It was a really relaxed and social affair with plenty of laughs about school days at Bishops.

On the left: Lindsay Berends (1967S).  Behind him, Gary Taylor (1973G) and then (standing): Gareth Davies (1998K) and Graeme Buchan-Swanson (1971G).  Right hand side of this picture (from back to front) is Arjan snoek (19970), the Tudor Marsden-Huggins (1995K), Moray Falconer (1986B) and Ryan McNamara (2016W) the youngest of the group.

Gareth Davies, Branch Secretary had this to say:

We all shared good memories and stories and the bond was fun.  We certainly sank a few good beers along the way.  A great afternoon! To be repeated.

Whilst writing this article, we caught up with Tudor Marsden-Huggins (pictured in the red golfer above) and he gave us some background about his time at Bishops.  He attended Bishops but did not matriculate at the school.  He was in Founders 1992 as a boarder from Malawi and then Kidd house 1993 as a day boy when his family moved to Cape Town. He went on to do his A Levels in Zimbabwe and would have matriculated in 1995.  He remembers being at school with Marcus Brain (1995W), Stuart Abbot (1995S) to mention only a few of his classmates.  It really is a testament to Bishops that ODs want to stay connected to the school even when they leave and go elsewhere.

The feedback from everyone who attended the lunch was that it was really enjoyable and they would definitely do so again.

Cheers to next time!
