Nic Searle, Branch Secretary of Eastern Canada, hosted a very insightful virtual event recently.  The topic of this fascinating talk was, THE WAR ON DRUGS and what exactly it means.  It explored the problems that this war was attempting to resolve and possible alternatives, if there were any. 

A short Bio:

Invited speaker was Dr. John Cartwright John attended Bishops from 1947-1955 (Gray House).

He was at BA UCT, 1958; MA Trinity College, Oxford (English Language and Literature), 1964; PhD (Medieval Studies) University of Toronto, 1974. John was Dean, Faculty of Arts, UCT (1991-94); Head, Department of English UCT (1996-97). From 2016-2019, John was Consultant to the City of Cape Town Directorate of Safety and Security, for the development of an integrated model of neighbourhood policing for Cape Town's most disorderly neighbourhoods. In 2014 John was a Member, panel of experts, Provincial Commission into Policing in Khayelitsha. In 2013 John was Consultant on reconceptualising the strategy on safety and security at Groote Schuur Hospital. In 2012, together with Professor Clifford Shearing, John published "Where’s the Chicken: Making South Africa Safe: our attempt to put in accessible form our best thinking on creating safe communities". 

From 2007-2018 John was Researcher and consultant, Centre of Criminology, University of Cape Town.
