To All Prospective Applicants for the Diocesan College Rhodes Scholarship:
The following is from Ms Bev Johnson of Rhodes House:
Founded by a bequest in Cecil John Rhodes’ Will, the Rhodes Scholarships have been awarded since 1902. From that date, nearly 1000 young people from across Southern African have been given the opportunity to further their post-graduate studies at Oxford University thanks to the Rhodes scholarship programme. Internationally, the Rhodes Scholarships are regarded as the oldest and probably most prestigious global scholarships; and are awarded to high potential scholars from 30 regions around the globe. The scholarships are for post-graduate degrees at Oxford University, which is ranked consistently as one of the top universities in the world, and offers magnificent opportunities for post-graduate studies. Entrance to Oxford is highly competitive, hence the scholarships are targeted at academic high-achievers, who show leadership ability, moral force of character, empathy, and a commitment and desire to impact positively on the broader community.
100 Rhodes scholarships are awarded internationally each year, ten of which are allocated to the Southern African Constituency (comprising South Africa, Botswana, Lesotho, Malawi, Namibia and eSwatini).
Applications open 01 June 2019 and close on 15 August 2019.
The Rhodes Scholarships are
inclusive and generous, covering most of the graduate’s expenses in Oxford (including tuition and College accommodation fees, a monthly stipend, one return air flight, assistance with visa and health care costs, and superb wrap-around support).
