ODs Gerard Pieterse (2014S), James MacDonald (2016F), Cuan Hablutzel (2013W), Ross Goodwin (2017G) William Rose (2018S) and forwards coach Tank Lanning (1989S) all assisted the Ikeys in Japan last week in successfully defending their World University World Cup last week.
This year’s tournament was the second of its kind having started in 2015, is somewhat of a curtain raiser for the showpiece event currently taking place, see teams from all over the world compete.
UCT kicked off their campaign beating the University of British Columbia 40-0 (Canada), followed by a hefty 52-0 victory against Bordeaux University (France), rounding off their pool stage games with a win against a combined New Zealand University side, beating them 31-14.
They next faced a strong challenge in the form of old rivals Oxford University (United Kingdom) in the semi-finals, winning 15-0.
The final saw the men from Cape Town take on Bordeaux again, winning 17-3.

This year’s tournament was hosted by Waseda University and saw the formatted shortened to two 20-minute halves.
