Nicholas on a Visit to Cambridge when he went across to write exams

Dr Paul Murray (HOD History, Director of the Bishops Society, and Bishops Archivist) reports:
Bishops is pleased to announce that the 2016 recipient of the Mary Gray Studentship to St John’s College Cambridge, Nicholas Janisch, will be going to Cambridge in September 2018, to commence his studies in Mathematics and Physics.

An award is made when the senior Tutor from SJC calls for candidates who are in Grade 12, to apply, and then they are interviewed and hopefully someone is nominated.  The nomination for 2016 was Nicholas Janisch.

After having written a series of qualifying exams at Cambridge, Nicholas has been informed that his application to study Mathematics and Physics, has been successful.

During Nicholas’ time at Bishops, he achieved full colours for academics and music, received the Grade 1st Prize (Gr 12), was a member of many musical ensembles, received a provincial award for Mathematics and enjoyed playing cricket and hockey throughout his school career.

Whilst preparing for, and writing the exams for Cambridge, Nicholas has been at UCT for the past year-and-a-half, studying a BSc in Mathematics and Computer Science.

Once qualified at Cambridge, Nicholas hopes to apply Mathematics to solving some of the problems of the future, with specific interest in the applications of Mathematics to Computer Science and Big Data analysis.

Our heartiest congratulations go to Nicholas and his family, Helena and Michael his parents, and Thomas (Gray House, Gr 12).
