OD Bursary Fund |
The OD Committee representative together with the Bishops Scholarship and Bursary committee under the chair of the School Principal meet some 4 times per annum to consider applications usually for the following year and beyond. These meetings are held around March, May, August and October each year.
The OD Union Bursary Fund is set up to help the sons of Old Diocesans (ODs) with financial assistance toward their education at Bishops.
Applications are considered for the boy’s College years ( grade 8 to matric) mainly, though the bursary scheme will consider applications from grade N (nursery) and through the Bishops Pre-Preparatory and Preparatory Schools (DCPS).
Bursary’s awarded are almost always only part bursary’s due to limitations of the fund. The fund aims to award around 4% of its capital per year allowing for it to grow over time.
In 2021, 34 boys received bursary’s in 2022, twenty boys and this year (2023),15 boys are are being assisted with their tuition.

The ODU Bursary fund is not the only fund that awards bursaries to sons of ODs, there are others such as the Robert Paton Bursaries, the Hamilton Mvelase Bursary, Hoffman Stempel bursaries, various OD year group bursaries and individual bursaries.
The school also awards Bishops bursaries to deserving boys for sons of clergy and others for talent/need and compassionate reasons. Scholarships include academic, cultural and other scholarships that are also awarded by the school to deserving candidates. These can also be applied for via admissions at the email provided above.
Should you wish to contribute to the ODU Bursary fund please contact Dedry at the ODU at [email protected] for details. A section I8 A certificate will be issued to all contributions above R3000. This would be much appreciated and put to good use.
