Miles Maskell (O, 1953) has lived a varied and adventurous life, and has travelled widely as amusingly recounted in his recently-published book, My Wife's Canary. Born in London and educated at Bishops and Cambridge, he has been a City of London wine merchant, owned two restaurants and a champagne bar, and created a company letting top-of-the-range properties in southern France. He has climbed mountains, shot wild boar in Poland, piloted a 4-seater aircraft of which he was a part-owner, parachuted in New Zealand, and ridden the Cresta Run in St Moritz. He is also a sculptor.
Written as a lighthearted and easy-to-read series of anecdotes, this autobiography recounts some of the more entertaining experiences of his life, as well as a number of humorous and sometimes often awkward incidents he encountered with his relations and closest friends.
Miles will be speaking about his book at a small lunch at The Carlton Club on Tuesday 14th November. Hopefully, the stories behind the stories as well. With wives/partners most welcome, the cost is a mere £40 pp for a three-course lunch (wine, beer and soft drinks all included) and, of course, a signed copy of the book.
